The Giant Grill Gauge replaces the analog dome thermometer on the great majority of grills and smokers. There are two ways to be sure about yours: check the list of grills we have confirmed, or print the template and hold it against your grill.
The quick answer
GGG: Compatible Grills and Smokers lists every grill and smoker we have confirmed, and which mount each one needs. If yours is on it, you are done.
If it is not on the list, that almost always means untested rather than incompatible. Print the template below and check it yourself, which takes about two minutes.
Print the template
Print at 100%, no scaling, and check the scale reference on the page before you measure anything. A template printed "fit to page" will lie to you.

The mount itself is 107 mm across, so allow the full 109 mm of flat area to seat it properly.
Which mount do I need, the Heat Shield or the Heat Deflector?
This is the most common fitment question, and it comes down to where the Gauge sits and how hot that spot gets.

If you are unsure, choose the Heat Shield. There is no real downside to more heat protection unless you specifically want the slimmer profile.
Running a grill hotter than your mount's rating is the thing to avoid. A clean-out burn or a pizza cook can take a lid past 750°F, and it is the mount rather than the sensor that gives out first. The sensor itself reads accurately to 1000°F (538°C).
Ceramic and kamado grills
Never drill a ceramic grill. Ceramic cracks, and the crack will keep going. This is the one hard rule in this guide.
Ceramic grills do not need drilling. Most kamados have an existing thermometer hole, and we make adapter plates for the common ones:
- BGE Plate for Big Green Egg, and it also fits some Kamado Joe models
- Kamado Plate, in large and small, for Kamado Joe and similar
GGG: Compatible Grills and Smokers lists which plate each grill takes. If your Kamado has no existing hole at all, contact us before doing anything to it.
One thing to check on thick-walled ceramic. The sensor tube is 86 mm long, and on heavily insulated grills it may not reach past the interior wall. Measure your existing thermometer probe: if it is substantially longer than 86 mm, ask us before ordering.
Replacing a factory thermometer? Check the hole size
On some grills, the original thermometer sits in a larger hole than the Gauge's mount covers, which leaves a visible gap once the old unit comes out.
Measure the existing hole before you remove anything. If it is wider than 1/4", get in touch and tell us the grill make and model, and we will tell you whether the mount covers it.
Before you order
- Print the template at 100% and check it against your grill
- Confirm the mounting surface is flat enough across the full 4.3 in (109 mm)
- Confirm you have 2.5 in (64 mm) of clearance around the spot
- Measure your existing thermometer hole
- Decide which mount suits where you are putting it
