The WiFi Booster does two jobs at once: it extends the range between your thermometer and your phone, and it recharges the thermometer without a plug.

It is a charging cradle with a battery and a radio in it, so a thermometer stored inside stays topped up and ready, and any thermometer in range gets its signal relayed further.

Which Booster do I have?

Three similar-looking things ship with Combustion thermometers. Look at yours in this order, and you will know within seconds.

1. Is there a yellow WiFi sticker on it?

That is a WiFi Booster. It has its own battery, extends Bluetooth range, recharges your thermometer, and bridges everything to the cloud over WiFi.

2. No sticker, but the light is a button you can press?

That is a 1st-generation Booster. It has its own battery, extends Bluetooth range and recharges your thermometer, but it has no WiFi radio, so it cannot reach the cloud on its own.

3. A much smaller light that is not a button?

That is the standard charging cradle that comes with a thermometer. It charges your thermometer while plugged in, and that is all. No battery of its own, no range extending, no WiFi.

The two Boosters are the same size, 165.8 x 15.8 x 14.4 mm, so measuring will not tell them apart. The sticker is the quick answer.

If you want to confirm a WiFi Booster a second way: it shows a brief blue flash when connected to WiFi, and it appears under WiFi Devices in the app. A 1st-generation Booster does neither.

What it does

• Recharges your thermometer anywhere. Up to 16 full recharges from one Booster charge on the WiFi Booster, or up to 8 on the 1st generation
• Keeps a stored thermometer ready. A thermometer left in the Booster stays charged for up to 285 days, about 9.5 months
• Extends your range. Each Booster relays and rebroadcasts the signal, adding roughly another 330ft (100m) per hop
• Bridges to the cloud over WiFi, so the app can see your cook from anywhere with internet (WiFi Booster only)
• Links up to 4 thermometers per Booster, and works alongside other Boosters and Displays

Will it work with my thermometer?

Yes. Any Predictive Thermometer works with any accessory, whichever generation each one is.

• A 1st-generation thermometer in a WiFi Booster gets cloud access it never had on its own
• A 2nd-generation thermometer in a 1st-generation Booster works normally for charging and Bluetooth range, but has no WiFi, because the 1st-generation Booster has no WiFi radio

How many Boosters do I need?

Usually one. Each Booster links up to 4 thermometers, and you only need one WiFi tool in your whole setup to reach the cloud, whether that is a WiFi Booster, a WiFi Display, or a Giant Grill Gauge.

Two Boosters are worth it if you want two charging points, or if you need an extra relay hop to reach a distant smoker.

Where to put it

Placement matters more than most people expect. Put the Booster near the thermometer you want to boost, so the first hop is strong, and let it relay onward to your phone or Display.

If you are on a mesh WiFi system such as Orbi, eero, or Google Nest, the Booster's low-power WiFi chip locks onto one access point when it powers on and does not roam between nodes. Set it up and power it on where it will actually live.
