What’s the advantage of using the phone app?Updated 7 days ago

The Display and the app do the same core job. The app adds four things on top.

  1. Graphs of the whole cook. The app charts temperature along the entire length of the thermometer, not just at the sensors. We interpolate between the 8 sensors, so you can see how evenly your food is cooking, like x-ray vision into a roast. See Reading Your Cook: Temperatures, Sensors, and Graphs.
  2. More thermometers at once. The Display handles up to 4. The app handles more than that, and lets you give each probe a nickname and a photo so you can tell them apart at a glance. See Using Multiple Thermometers.
  3. Remote monitoring. With one WiFi tool in your setup, a WiFi Display, WiFi Booster, or Giant Grill Gauge, the app can check on a cook when you are not in the house.
  4. Alarms on your phone. Target temperature alerts, SafeCook, and predictions arrive wherever you are.

It is not one or the other. Using the app and the Display together is the best setup, because the Display relays the signal and extends how far you can roam. See Do I need the Display?
