Troubleshooting Firmware Updates for Combustion DevicesUpdated a month ago
This article provides helpful guidance for updating Combustion Predictive Thermometers, boosters, and displays. We understand that firmware updates can sometimes be challenging, and we're here to help you through the process.
Known Issues
You may notice that firmware updates can sometimes experience delays or occasionally stall. Our team has identified that these issues relate to how the current firmware update library interacts with multiple Combustion devices.Â
Best Practices for Updating Firmware
Before You Begin
Ensure devices are charged
Update devices one at a time
Turn off all other Combustion devices
Update to the latest app version
During the Update Process
Most Important: Only Power On One Device at a Time
The key to successful firmware updates is having only the device being updated powered on. This helps the update process run smoothly without interference.
For CPT Updates:
Remove the CPT from its booster
Turn off all other CPTs, boosters, and displays
Turn off the CPT's own booster as quickly as possible after removing the CPT
Proceed with the update through the app
For Booster Updates:
If possible, remove the CPT from the booster and use a basic charger to keep the CPT off during the update
Turn off all other devices
Proceed with the booster update through the app
For Display Updates:
Turn off all CPTs and boosters
Proceed with display update through the app
Helpful Troubleshooting Tips
If the Update Stalls at "Update - Starting":
Wait a few minutes (sometimes there can be longer delays than expected)
If still stalled, restart the app completely
When restarting the update, remember to ensure only one device is powered on
If the Update Completes But Then Enters Update Mode Again:
This is a behavior we've seen with some boosters
If the app confirms your device is up to date, you can safely exit the update process
If You Experience Repeated Difficulties:
Try using a basic charger to keep CPTs turned off during booster updates
Make sure no other Bluetooth devices are actively connecting to your Combustion devices
Confirm only one app is attempting to connect to your Combustion devices
