Setup Guide: Combustion AppUpdated a month ago
The app is where you set targets, watch temperatures, get predictions, and keep your tools updated. Setting it up takes a couple of minutes.
1. Install the app
The Combustion app is free, on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android. Search for "Combustion Inc".
2. Turn on Bluetooth first
Enable Bluetooth before you open the app for the first time, and allow the Bluetooth permission when the app asks. Everything the app does with your thermometer runs over Bluetooth, and if the permission is refused at first launch, the app cannot find your tools at all.
You do not need an account to cook. One is only needed for MeatNet Cloud, which lets you watch a cook from somewhere else.
3. Connect your thermometer
Take the thermometer out of its charger or Booster, and the app will find it. No pairing code, no setup wizard.
Setup Guide: Predictive Thermometer covers the thermometer itself, and there are matching guides for the Display and the Booster.
4. Update the firmware
Most of what makes these tools clever is software running on board, and updates improve everyday performance as well as unlocking features. The app tells you when an update is available.
Firmware Updates: Complete Guide has the full procedure, including what to do if an update stalls. Read it before your first update rather than during.
Worth knowing about advanced mode
Advanced mode shows and graphs all eight sensors along the thermometer instead of just the headline numbers. Watching heat move through a piece of meat changes how you think about cooking. Reading Your Cook: Temperatures, Sensors, and Graphs explains what you are looking at.
Still have a question?
Combustion App: Overview and FAQs answers what the app does and what it needs. Combustion App: Troubleshooting Guide covers not finding a device, crashing, or losing a connection.
