Combustion devices broadcast their data in the open, using published Bluetooth specifications. Anyone can read it.
What that means for you
Other apps can use your thermometer. If someone builds a cooking app, a logging tool, or a home-automation integration that reads Combustion data, it will work with your hardware. You do not need to enable anything.
Appliance makers can build it in. We publish the specifications so any manufacturer can read data from a Combustion device without a partnership, a licence, or a fee.
Our app is not the only option, by design. Our app and Displays add a prediction algorithm that tells you when your food will actually be done. That is genuinely useful, but it is not the only thing the underlying data is good for, and we would rather other people built the things we have not thought of.

The specifications and open-source frameworks are on GitHub, and Combustion Developer Resources has the links.
No licensing fees, software agreement, or purchase agreement. You do not need to be a Combustion partner. What you build remains yours.
