Do I need to calibrate my Predictive Thermometer?Updated 6 days ago

No. The sensors are zero-calibration parts, so there is no calibration step for you to perform, and every thermometer is checked during manufacturing.


If you want to check it yourself, an ice water bath is the simple test:

  1. Fill an insulated cup with ice
  2. Add just enough cold water to fill the gaps
  3. Stir the mixture with your thermometer for about 30 seconds

All submerged sensors should read close to 32°F (0°C), within a couple of tenths of a degree.


If a reading looks wrong during a cook, it is usually not the sensor. Two things throw the algorithm off:

  • The wrong sensor gets picked as the core. Missing the centre of your food by as little as 1/4 inch is enough to do it.
  • Inserting or moving the thermometer mid-cook. Putting it in after cooking has started, or pulling it out and repositioning it, can confuse the prediction.
