📐 Do I Need an Adapter?

The Combustion Engine ships with a standard silicone snout, which fits most grills and smokers with adjustable vent holes at the bottom (such as Weber Kettle, Weber Smokey Mountain, PK Grill, and others).

For other models, optional adapter plates are available:

• Big Green Egg/Kamado-style smoker adapters:
  • Big Green Egg plate – 81 × 125 mm (3.2 × 4.9 in)
  • Large Kamado plate – 89 × 76 mm (3.5 × 3 in)
  • Small Kamado plate – 84 × 70 mm (3.3 × 2.75 in)
• Threaded mounts (for grills with ball valves):
  • Designed for common ball valve sizes: ¾ in, 1.5 in, 2 in
• 30mm Port:
  • Fits ports 30 mm (1.18 in) in diameter

Adapters can be purchased at the time of order or added later before shipping. You can also order extra standard snouts to easily move the Combustion Engine between different grills.

Do I need the Giant Grill Gauge or Predictive Thermometer to use the Engine?

Yes — you’ll need either the Giant Grill Gauge or a Predictive Thermometer measuring the grill/chamber temperature. That input tells the Combustion Engine how much to blow to keep the temp steady.

How do I set the target temperature?

You can set your desired grill temperature using the giant knob on the blower itself, through the Giant Grill Gauge, or in the Combustion app.

Does the Combustion Engine have a “sear” mode?

Yes — turn the dial to “max” to get the coals pumping for maximum heat. This is handy even when you’re not smoking, such as for searing or firing up quickly.

How powerful is the fan?

The fan is sized to supply up to 15 CFM, which is more than enough for most grills and smokers. The Engine automatically adjusts its output based on feedback to maintain the target temperature.

How hard is it to install?

It depends on the grill or smoker. Many grills are simple and require no tools, while some may require drilling a hole to position the fan exhaust properly. It’s about as easy—or as tricky—as installing any third-party blower.

How long does it take to recharge?

Recharging time depends on the power supply and USB cable you use.

• ~24 hours with 5V USB 2.0
• ~4 hours with standard USB-C
• ~1 hour with USB-C PD (Power Delivery)

Can it run while charging?

Yes — it can operate while plugged in, and with a USB-C PD power supply it can even run and charge at the same time.

Do I need an adapter/mounting kit?

The included “almost-universal” standard snout works with most grills and smokers. However, for Big Green Egg, Kamado-style smokers, or grills with threaded ball valves, you’ll need the appropriate adapter plate (available as accessories).
