How to charge it
Put the thermometer in its charging cradle, or in a Booster. The cradle is included; a USB cable and power adapter are not, so use your own USB-C cable and any standard 5V USB port.
A full charge takes about 25 minutes. Even five minutes gets you enough for a long cook.
Avoid "quick charge" and other non-standard USB power supplies. These rely on the device to negotiate voltage, and that part of the industry is barely regulated. A non-standard port can push more voltage or current than expected, and the charger will overheat and destroy itself, protecting the thermometer. It is dangerous, and it smells bad. Use a standard 5V USB port.
One specific warning: some ThermoWorks chargers deliver 12V. That will destroy any Combustion tool. See Warnings and Watchouts.
How long the battery lasts
These are the figures for the 2nd-generation Predictive Thermometer:

Quick charge: five minutes gives you about 24 hours of cook time.
On the 1st-generation, cooking mode runs up to 42 hr, and five minutes of quick charge gives about 8 hours of cook time. If you need the instant-read or standby figures for a 1st Generation thermometer, get in touch, and we will confirm them for your firmware version.
A thermometer out of its charger sits in instant-read mode by default. It switches to cooking mode when you set a target temperature, which is also when the longer battery life applies.
How long a Booster keeps it topped up
This one depends on which Booster you have, not which thermometer:

When it is asleep and when it is not
The thermometer goes into standby when it is in the charging cradle, and the cradle is not connected to power. That is the state the standby figures above describe.
